SABAH HOSPITALITY FIESTA 2025 AND INAUGURAL SOHEX OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED AT SICC
Kota Kinabalu, 21 November 2025 – The Sabah Hospitality Fiesta (SHF) 2025 and the debut Sabah Hospitality Expo (SOHEX) kicked off today at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), bringing together over 400 competitors, 140 exhibitors, and an expected 4,000 trade visitors for three days of competitions, networking, and innovation.
In his opening address, the Organizing Chairman highlighted the events' shared mission: celebrating Sabah's hospitality talent while sparking business growth and regional collaboration. What started over a decade ago as a modest competition among local hotel schools has evolved into a standout Southeast Asian hospitality gathering. This year, participants from more than 80 institutions will compete across 32 categories, including culinary battles, service challenges, barista showdowns, and pastry creations.
SOHEX adds a strong trade focus, with exhibition halls buzzing as suppliers, innovators, and investors explore partnerships to build a more sustainable hospitality ecosystem in Sabah.

Sabah's tourism sector is on an upward trajectory. In 2024, the state welcomed 3.2 million arrivals - a 28% jump from the prior year, with international visitors up 45%, led by China, South Korea, Brunei, and the Philippines. Targets for 2025 aim for 4 million visitors and RM9.5 billion in receipts. Travelers today seek authentic experiences: organic cocoa from Tawau, wild honey from the interior, responsibly sourced seafood from Semporna, plus seamless digital services wrapped in genuine cultural warmth. Events like SHF and SOHEX play a key role in nurturing talent and networks to deliver exactly that.Write your text here...
The Chairman extended gratitude to key supporters, including the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment (KePKAS), Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (KSTI), Sabah Convention Bureau, Sabah Tourism Board, and Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau. He urged KePKAS to commit RM100,000 annually to ensure the Fiesta's ongoing success as a premier platform for talent development.
Additional thanks went to SR Event for top-notch audio-visual setups; industry partners Nestlé, Bidfood, and BESS for premium ingredients and equipment; and strategic partner China Malaysia Commercial Operation Management (Henan) Co. Limited for bolstering ties to a major tourism market.
Calls were made for stronger collaboration to establish SHF and SOHEX as a fixed annual event on the national calendar, with a permanent secretariat in Kota Kinabalu.

The Environmental Magazine Issue 56 Launch & Sharing Session
Featuring Cover Story: Jonathan Wong Kar Gee – Bringing More Health, Heart, and Hope to the World
The Environmental Magazine proudly celebrated the launch of its Issue 56 (Print & e-Magazine) on Friday, 31 October, at Chill Out Lintas Café, marking another meaningful milestone in its ongoing mission to inspire sustainable living and environmental consciousness in Sabah and beyond.
This special issue shines a spotlight on Jonathan Wong Kar Gee, the visionary founder of Green Cresco, through a heartfelt cover story titled “Bringing More Health, Heart, and Hope to the World.” Green Cresco is a pioneer in indoor smart hydroponics, an innovative system that promotes safer, cleaner, and more sustainable food cultivation. Supported by Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen, the initiative embodies a strong commitment to advancing a safety-first and health-driven sustainability movement, empowering communities to adopt smart, eco-friendly solutions in food production.
Quote by Jonathan Wong - We provide pesticide-free and organically grown curly kale, lettuces, herbs, tomatoes, chili plants, and pasture-raised chicken eggs. In addition, we offer customized hydroponic systems tailored for offices, homes, and commercial-scale use.

The launch and luncheon were graciously hosted by Adj. Professor Jong Chung Jin (A.S.D.K) — an accomplished Entrepreneur, Adjunct Professor, Social Contributor, and SME Advisor for #TSFF The Signature Food Fest 2026 – 5th Edition.
During her opening and welcome address, Ms. Jong emphasized the importance of continuous education and awareness in cultivating healthier lifestyles and ensuring food safety across Sabah. As an environmentalist herself, she passionately expressed that “going green is not merely an idea but a lifelong passion and responsibility for sustainability.”
This Issue 56, currently presented in Mandarin, signifies an exciting new chapter for The Environmental Magazine as it prepares to expand its reach through English-language print and digital editions, bridging the gap between local innovation and a global environmental audience.
The event also served as a valuable networking and sharing platform, where invited guests — comprising entrepreneurs, advocates, and collaborators — exchanged forward-thinking ideas on sustainability, green innovation, and responsible business practices.

In the second session, Ms. Jong introduced The Signature Food Fest 2026 – 5th Edition, emphasizing the event as a vital cross-industry platform to showcase culinary creativity while promoting health, sustainability, and community empowerment. She expressed optimism that Green Cresco would leverage this platform to further strengthen the GREEN Movement, inspiring others to embrace eco-conscious living.
A brief note on our inspiring cover personality — Jonathan Wong Kar Gee (born 18 March 1991) is a distinguished Malaysian para-athlete who represented Malaysia at the 2020 and 2024 Summer Paralympic Games. Beyond his achievements in sports, Jonathan continues to break boundaries through his leadership at Green Cresco, embodying resilience, innovation, and purpose. His story perfectly mirrors the theme of this issue — a message of hope, growth, and sustainability for the future.
